Con su avión deportivo en estilo Vintage Avispón Loco de Ugears cada día es ideal para volar. Inspirado en el Gee Bee Modelo R-1 Super Sportster de los Granville Brothers y otros aviones deportivos vintage de los años 30 del siglo pasado, el Avispón Loco tiene un fuselaje abultado en forma de lagrima y su cabina de piloto está posicionada bastante atrás para proporcionar al piloto mejor visibilidad para las estrechas curvas alrededor de los pilones del circuito de la carrera.
Los años 20 y 30 del siglo XIX eran la “Edad de Oro de la Aviación”. El diseño de los aviones evolucionó de biplanos de madera y tela hacia monoplanos de metal, y los motores cada vez más potentes abrieron nuevas posibilidades para su uso para fines militares y civiles. En 1932, el Gee Bee R-1 ganó la Thompson Trophy (una de las carreras aeronáuticas más prestigiosas de los Estados Unidos), pilotado por Jimmy Doolittle, quien más tarde fue galardonado con la Medalla de Honor por liderar un atrevido bombardeo en Japón después de Pearl Harbor. Con una velocidad máxima de 294 millas por hora, el R-1 ganó en la carrera de 1932 a todos sus competidores gracias a su capacidad de mantener una considerable altura y su excelente maniobrabilidad a altas velocidades. En palabras de Doolittle, “era el avión más dulce que jamás he volado”.
El avión Avispón Loco de Ugears es una maqueta para montar de madera con nivel de dificultad “Medio” y 354 piezas, que promete 8 horas de agradable montaje. La maqueta es propulsada por un motor de resorte helicoidal, que a menudo se utiliza en mecanismos de relojería y otros instrumentos de precisión. En el modo de chequeo, la hélice gira mientras los flaps de las alas y el timón se mueven, antes de que el avión cambie automáticamente al modo de rodaje para cruzar el campo de aviación y llegar a la pista de despegue. En el modo de rodaje, su avión empieza a rodar inmediatamente ¡y puede recorrer hasta 2,5 metros!
